︎︎︎ Wood Letter Block

Inspired by woodblock printing, a technique for printing text or images. Woodblock printing is used widely throughout East Asia and originated from China in antiquity as a method of printing on textiles and later paper. The earliest surviving examples of woodblock printing came from China.

︎︎︎ Inktrap

Ink traps are built into letterforms to aid in printing smaller sizes. At an ink trap, the corners or details are removed, leaving a gap. When the type is printed, ink would then naturally spread into the removed area. Without ink traps, the excess ink would soak outwards, causing edges of the letterform to dither, making it less readable.

︎︎︎ Extracted from Unknown Type

A creative turn on pixel art style. In digital imaging, a pixel is a physical point in a rasterised image, also known as the smallest addressable element on a display screen. Pixels can be described as the smallest building blocks of the screens that we are all familiar with today.

︎︎︎ Halftone Pattern

Inspired by CMYK process printing, a system where a color image is separated into 4 different color values (called a color separation) by the use of filters and screens. The result is a color separation of 4 images that when transferred to printing plates and sequentially printed on a printing press with the colored inks Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black, reproduces the original color image.

︎︎︎ Pixel Art Style

Computer art started in the 1960s. In the 2000s, pixel art became more apparent in video games, and pixel design proceeded to branch out to include print and broadcast media, web design and games.

︎︎︎ Monotype

Monotype is defined as a typesetting machine which casts type in metal, one character at a time. This typesetting mechanism ties in with monospaced fonts that we see today. Monospaced fonts are also known as fixed-width fonts, in which letters and characters each occupy the same amount of horizontal space.

︎︎︎ Serif Font Style

A serif typeface can be recognized by the little strokes that extend from its letters. Serif typefaces are some of the older typefaces, hence associated with being more classic, romantic, elegant, formal, and established. Some well-known serif typefaces include Times New Roman, Georgia, and Garamond.

︎︎︎ North Symbol

Inspired by the architectural symbol for the North arrow, commonly used in architectural drawings. This is only one of the thousands of symbols that are used in architectural design, helping to make sense of site maps and floor plans.

︎︎︎ Extracted from Akzidenz Grotesk Extended

Intended as a typeface for commercial print runs such as publicity, tickets and forms, as opposed to fine printing.

︎︎︎ Color Registration Marks

Colour bars are used to help with quality control by the printer. Squares of colour are printed on the trim area of a print project and used to ensure that colour density and consistency is maintained. This process is automated by some printers, with digital scanners to track the colour bars.

︎︎︎ Crop marks

Crop marks are lines that are printed in the corners of a print project to show the printer where the paper needs to be trimmed. They are used when an image or color on the page needs to extend and bleed beyond the edges of the paper. Crop marks ensure accuracy in sizing and prevents unnecessary margins from appearing in a final printed artwork.

︎︎︎ QR Codes

QR codes are a manifestation of bridging online and offline media, connecting the physical world to the digital world. With a quick scan, people can now get access information at any time and place.

︎︎︎ CMYK Dots

The CMYK color model is a subtractive color model used in color printing. CMYK is also a term used to describe the printing process itself. The four letters refer to the four ink plates used in some color printing: cyan, magenta, yellow, and key (black).
